An unusual antique silver mid - late 19th century Portuguese sterling silver santos halo/crown.

This antique silver headpiece for a Santos figure is altogether unique. Originally it was made to be worn over the head of an altar santo or saint. It is a beautiful example of colonial Portuguese folk art.

It has three groups of beaming sun rays with two stars shining at the very end. A third star is missing.

In fair antique/used condition with signs of ageing and worshiping. As mentioned above the third star and half of one of the rays are missing, to which considering its age, in my opinion, only add to its true splendour. Please note it has been priced according to its condition - Refer to the images!

It measures approximately 11.2 cm long by 10 cm wide and it weighs approximately 17 grams of silver.

Beautifully crafted and depicting a surprisingly different halo, it hasn't been properly cleaned, but if the option is to have it cleaned, do it thoroughly and the original silver will shine even more.

A delightful example of colonial religious/folk art, to be added to a silver collection, or to crown a special santo.
