An endearing antique 18K gold religious pendant.
This antique and precious Portuguese 18k gold pendant is depicting Aloysius Gonzaga, or perhaps Gerard Majella. On the background is dated 19 - 1 - 923 with the name Luiz Carlos.
"Aloysius Gonzaga is the patron saint of youth and students."
"Gerard Majella is the patron saint of childbirth, children, pregnant women, mothers, falsely accused people, good confessions, lay brothers..."
The medal is 18k gold - no hallmark - acid tested positive as 18k gold.
The religious medal is Portuguese and it measures approximately 2.5 cm (including bail) by 1.9 cm.
It weighs approximately 2.14 grams of gold.
In good antique/used condition with small signs of ageing - which considering it is over 100 years old, in my opinion, only add to its timeless beauty. Antique items are almost always pre-worn and will typically have some level of wear. Please refer to images for condition and further details.
The medal has two tiny holes (Sprues or Vents) on its side - When jewelry is cast, a mold is created to shape the molten metal into the desired form. Small holes, also known as "sprues" or "vents," are strategically placed in the mold to allow air and gases to escape as the molten metal fills the mold cavity.
The medal is sold on its own. The chain on image 7 is just used as a reference.
I love when an antique item has a date stamped on it, this one being 1923 it brings so much authenticity and yet secret and mystery.
