Delightful antique Mother of Pearl Horned Hand mounted on a 14k gold embellished articulated case.

Circa late 1800s / early 1900s, this rare Mano Cornuto is quite very special. It has a 14k gold articulated case - no hallmark - acid tested as 14k gold.
It has tiny gold solitaire dot on one of the fingers, depicting a ring.
A later addition 9k gold strong double bail has been added to offer more strength to this beautiful charm.

The hand is carved in a delightful primitive/folk way.

In good antique/used condition with the usual small signs of ageing - (antique items are almost always pre-worn and will typically have some level of wear). Please refer to images for condition and further details.

The hand measures approximately 4 cm (including bail) by 1 cm and it weighs approximately 3.2 grams.

The chain on image 7 is just used as a reference.

It’s sold as it was originally acquired recently with other antique coral and mother of Pearl charms from an antique dealer in southern Italy.

“Horned Hand amulet, Corsica Mano cornuta, or ‘horned hand’ amulets are thought to be of ancient Italian origin and are worn as protection against the harmful glance of the Evil Eye. Mano cornuta is one of two hand gestures that are commonly used for this purpose, the second being the mano fica, or ‘figa hand’.”
