Antique 18K Gold Chnoubis Sard Intaglio Ring, Rare Double-Sided Lion Serpent Talisman, Greco-Egyptian Signet, Size 8

A rare and substantial Chnoubis intaglio ring, crafted in solid 18k gold and weighing approximately 10 grams.

The translucent brownish-red stone, believed to be sard, a dark variety of chalcedony, is engraved on the front with Chnoubis, the radiate lion-headed serpent of the Greco-Egyptian magical tradition. A star and crescent moon appear beside the figure, while the reverse carries the distinctive Chnoubis magical sign, visible through the open-backed setting.

The intaglio is believed to be Roman-period, most likely dating from around the 2nd–3rd century AD, and appears to have been mounted at a later date in the present solid 18k gold ring. This attribution is based on close iconographic parallels with documented Roman magical gems; however, the stone has not been independently authenticated or formally dated.

Traditionally associated with protection, vitality and healing, Chnoubis transforms this striking unisex ring into something more personal, a talisman carrying an ancient and mysterious symbolism.

The ring comes from my private collection. Its unusual double-sided carving, powerful imagery and substantial gold setting make it a rare collector’s piece, ready to be safeguarded and carried into the next chapter of its story.
