Antique 18k Gold Mother of Pearl Figa Charm with Knife, Mano Fico Talisman, Evil Eye Protection Pendant, c.1900

A striking and unusual antique figa charm, carved from luminous mother of pearl and dating to the early 20th century, circa 1900. This finely modelled hand is shown grasping a small knife, a powerful and evocative motif (possibly a later addition) . The hand mounted on a solid 18k gold case with a twisted gold bail. Though unhallmarked, the gold has been professionally acid tested and confirmed as 18k. The gold displays a soft blend of yellow and rose tones

The figa (or Mano Fico) has long been worn throughout Southern Europe as a talisman of protection, believed to ward off the evil eye and attract good fortune. In this rarer variation, the addition of the knife introduces an added layer of symbolism: not aggression, but defence. Traditionally, the blade represents the cutting away of negativity, misfortune, and ill intent, a guardian charm offering both spiritual protection and quiet strength.

The knife itself is carved from mother of pearl and set with two tiny ruby accents at the hilt, adding a discreet flash of colour and refinement. The soft iridescence of the pearl contrasts beautifully with the warm tone of the antique gold, creating a piece that feels symbolic.
