Antique 9k Gold Black Figa Pendant, Coral Heart Charm, Lucky Hand Amulet, Mano Fico, Italian Good Luck Talisman, 1920s Charm

A charming antique figa pendant dating to the 1920s, beautifully carved from a black material, most likely jet or vulcanite, and adorned with yellow warm rose-hued 9k gold fittings, acid tested positive as 9k gold despite the absence of hallmarks.

The finely modelled hand is decorated with individually applied gold nails, a delicate twisted gold bracelet and a beautifully hand-finished gold cap. Nestled within its grasp hangs a delightful coral heart, suspended from a small 14k gold fitting, most likely added during the piece’s lifetime as a cherished personal addition, acid tested positive as 14k gold.

The gold cap and decorative fittings display gentle age-related wear and a softly time-worn surface developed through decades of careful use, including small dents, giving the pendant the authentic character expected of a well-loved antique talisman. 

For centuries, the figa and fist have been worn throughout Italy and the Mediterranean as a powerful talisman against the evil eye, symbolising strength, protection and good fortune. The coral heart introduces a softer layer of symbolism, representing love, affection and vitality. 

This pendant was acquired from an Italian antique dealer alongside several other antique figa hands, each with its own distinctive character, which will be offered individually.
