A monumental and very rare antique bone Figa pendant.
This superb antique fist bone charm is all together marvellous. The pendant is made of bone, the arm is beautifully embellished all around and the hand and fingers are very detailed. The figa is mounted on an 18k gold base with an 18k gold bail (no hallmark - acid tested positive as 18k gold).
The hand is grasping a stunning 9k gold embellished bar depicting a sweet colonial view. Hanging from the bar there are three small figas (two natural coral ones mounted on 14k gold bases - no hallmarks acid tested positive as 14k gold), and one miniature 9k gold puffy figa (no hallmark - acid tested positive as 9k gold). The bar is hold by 9k gold chains.
The bar portraits on its front a silhouette of an adorable portugues/spanish colonial village with a church, a donkey, palm trees and a person. I had only one other smaller figa, in the past, holding a bar such as this one. In my opinion, the bar is an original balagandan frame. Please note that the mixture of materials, such as bone, coral, 18k, 14k and 9k gold, all around this piece makes it difficult to define its exact origin and age, as items could have been added on to it throughout its long and precious life…
The small gold and coral figas, hanging from the bar, bring another level of symbolism and mysticism to this remarkable Mano Fico.
A captivating and very tactile piece of jewellery, this fist pendant is exactly as it was originally acquired, inside a box, together with other antique hand charms and talismans from an antique dealer in Europe.
In good antique/used condition; with small signs of ageing such as the back of the bar is distressed, the thumb has a chip but it feels smooth when touched. - Every little stain, bend and mark all add, in my opinion, to its true mysterious timeless splendour. Antique items are almost always pre-worn and will typically have some level of wear - Please refer to the images.
This large piece measures in total approximately 13 cm long (including bail and bar) by 4.8 cm wide and it weighs approximately 18.65 grams.
The chain on image 8 is just used as a reference.
