A rare and intriguing antique Mediterranean coral pendant, finely carved in the form of a stylised serpent or dragon-like creature and mounted in solid 9 ct gold.

Carved from natural pink coral, the figure has an elongated, sinuous body and a subtly defined head, giving it a distinctly zoomorphic, almost mythical character. Rather than a naturalistic animal, this appears to be a symbolic creature, carved with intention and meaning rather than realism, typical of folk talismans and protective charms of the Mediterranean world.

In historical symbolism, serpents and dragon-serpents were powerful protective figures, associated with vigilance, renewal, and the warding off of harm. Combined with coral, long believed to possess protective properties, such pendants were worn close to the body as personal amulets, often passed from one owner to another.
