A rare and powerful late Victorian silver amulet depicting the Mano Cornuta, also known as the protective Horned Hand.
This striking 19th-century charm remains exactly as it was originally acquired from a private collector in Italy. The hand, meticulously crafted in silver, exudes character and history, bearing subtle signs of its long journey through time. Tiny marks and an aged patina add to its mystical allure, making it a one-of-a-kind protective talisman.
Measuring approximately 2.2 cm (including bail) by 0.8 cm and weighing 1.7 grams, this antique piece carries the weight of tradition. It was believed to ward off the Evil Eye, a deeply rooted superstition across Mediterranean cultures.
The chain on image 8 is just used for reference.
Part of my private collection of Figas, Fists, and Horned Hands, this piece embodies strength, defiance, and protection against misfortune.
"Corsican Mano Cornuta, or ‘horned hand’ amulets, are thought to have ancient Italian origins and were worn as shields against the harmful glance of the Evil Eye. The Mano Cornuta is one of two powerful hand gestures used for this purpose, the other being the Mano Figa."
A perfect lucky charm for those who appreciate the esoteric, historical jewellery, and rare antique talismans.
