This remarkable antique figa dates to the 1800s and carries all the quiet power and symbolism that has made the mano fico such an enduring talisman across centuries. Carved in bone and shaped as a clenched fist, this piece was created to ward off misfortune and attract protection, luck and strength to its wearer.
The hand is beautifully mounted in an ornate 18k gold case, richly embellished with delicate gold wirework, applied details, tiny nails and a gold bracelet encircling the wrist. (no hallmarks - acid tested as 18k gold). The gold displays a beautiful blended tone, combining warm yellow gold with subtle rose hues.
The craftsmanship is both tactile and expressive, combining devotional meaning with refined jewellery-making typical of the period. The warm tone of the aged bone contrasts elegantly with the soft glow of the gold, giving the piece a soulful and deeply historic presence.
Measuring approximately 5 cm including the bail and 1.6 cm wide, and weighing 7.6 grams, this figa works wonderfully as a pendant or as part of a curated collection of antique amulets. It remains in good used condition, showing honest signs of age and wear consistent with its long life and intended protective purpose.
A rare and evocative survivor, this antique hand amulet is ideal for collectors of Victorian jewellery, lovers of symbolic charms, or anyone drawn to objects with history, meaning and quiet magic.
