A rare and intriguing late-Victorian Christ arm pendant, carved from bone and set in an 18k gold mount.

A small gold nail passes through the hand, meeting what seems to be a natural crystal fragment on the opposite side, an evocative reference to the Stigmata. The hand itself is finely shaped, with three fingers extended and two gently curled.

This distinctive 19th-century devotional charm is the fifth example of this type I’ve offered. It comes from my personal collection of ex-voto and religious artefacts, which I’m gradually releasing here and on my website. I originally acquired it in Italy from an antique dealer, as part of a group of carved Christ body parts mounted on various gold fittings, all sold to me as Victorian devotional ex-voto pieces.

The gold case  is unmarked but has been acid-tested and confirmed as 18k gold.

In good antique condition, with expected signs of age and handling consistent with its history. In my view, these traces only enhance its character and sense of mystery. (As with all true antiques, some wear is normal.) Please review the photographs for details and condition.

Beautifully carved and full of presence.

Approximate size: 4 cm including the bail, by 0.5 cm.

Weight: about 1.4 grams.

Please note: the chain shown in image 8 is for display only and is not included.
