Victorian 18k Gold Onyx Mourning Locket Pendant

An extraordinary Victorian sealed locket made with Onyx and 18k gold with seed pearls and rubies details.

This stunning design black Onyx locket has a glass face on one side and an embellished letter L covered with four seed pearls and two rubies on the other side.

Inside the locket there is a delightful hand painted bone miniature portrait of a lady with a hat.

All the gold details have been acid tested positive as 18k gold.

In good antique/used condition with small signs of ageing on its surface and glass - to which in my view only add to its true mystery. The glass front is sealed/glued - and it does not open - so the image can not be replaced. A ghostly treasure with over 150 years old (please refer to images for reference).

It measures approximately 4.2 cm (including bail) by 2.4 cm, and it weighs approximately 7.9 grams.

A truly precious engraved locket. It’s been sold as it was originally acquired from a dealer in Lille - France.
