An interesting late Victorian figa pendant, carved from natural bone and decorated with solid 9k gold accents. It has a 9k gold case and it’s holding between the fingers a natural coral rose, a motif often associated with affection, gentleness, and spiritual protection. When combined with the traditional Mano Fico gesture, used throughout southern Europe as a symbol of defence and good fortune, the result is a pendant that carries both symbolic meaning and visual charm.
This pendant came from an Italian antique dealer, purchased together with threesimilar bone figas holding coral roses. Three have already been sold in my shop, and this is the fourth and last one.
Please be aware that this antique piece shows signs of age and use, as expected of an object of this period. A green patina is present on the surface, formed through natural age-related interaction between the gold mount and the organic material. This tonal change, referred to in conservation as metal migration, is typical of genuine old pieces and is valued by collectors as evidence of authenticity rather than considered a defect.
