A beautiful vintage Sputnik orb charm dating from the Atomic Age, inspired by the excitement and optimism of the Space Race.

Crafted in solid 18k gold (hallmarked 750 and acid tested), this three-dimensional openwork sphere is set with alternating green and reddish cabochon gemstones, possibly green chalcedony (or chrysoprase) and carnelian, although they may also be coloured glass.

The gold has a lovely rich yellow colour with subtle rose-gold undertones, giving it a particularly warm and elegant appearance.

Sputnik jewellery became highly popular during the late 1950s and 1960s, celebrating the dawn of the Space Age. Today these sculptural orb charms are sought after by collectors for their distinctive Mid-Century Modern style.

The pendant is in good vintage condition with light signs of age and wear consistent with its history, adding character to this original piece.
